<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A hero soldier recently awarded the George Cross has paid tribute to the people of Swindon and Wootton Basset for all the support they have shown to the brave boys and girls on the frontline in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
During a book signing at Swindon’s Designer Outlet village, 26-year-old Matt Croucher said residents in the areas have shown great respect and recognition for troops involved in fighting, the Swindon Advertiser reported.<\/p>\n
The lance corporal was in the area promoting his new book Bullet Proof and is raising money for the Help for Heroes charity.<\/p>\n
He told the newspaper that it is important the public supports soldiers and their efforts in protecting the country.<\/p>\n
"It is clear that Wootton Bassett is a very private town but I for one would like to have it publicly acknowledged, not necessarily with awards and things but just a gesture so they know how much we all appreciate what they do," lance corporal Croucher said.<\/p>\n
Paratrooper Ben Parkinson has heaped praise on the Army Benevolent Fund Soldier’s Charity, telling the Daily Mirror that the organisation has helped him immensely since he returned from Afghanistan. <\/p>\n
