A teenage jockey is to trek 120 miles from West Dartmoor to Land's End on her horse Eshie to raise cash for Help for Heroes (H4H).

Ellie Halton is expecting the journey to take six days and will have to negotiate the roads of Redruth and Newquay along the way, the Western Morning News reports.

The youngster has set herself a fundraising target of £1,000 and she has already managed to collect £300.

Ms Halton has chosen the armed forces charity because her father is set to go to Afghanistan later in the year as a submariner in the Royal Navy.

"I'll be taking a lot of my own gear with me, but staying at working farms over night," she added.

The teenager is confident her horse will be able to handle the expedition, as "he loves being out" and has been undergoing a special training regime to prepare him for it.
