Homeless people aren't often thought of as heroes, but three men in the US have shown their true worth to the community.

Deputy Kevin Meyer had been dispatched to a McDonald's restaurant in Florida to detain Patrick Davis, who was suspected of stealing a backpack.

As Deputy Meyer tried to handcuff Mr Davis a scuffle ensued and it became pretty obvious that he was in need of a helping hand.

Despite the fact the fast food outlet was full, no one got involved as the two males were left fighting.

That is, until Peter Finch, Jose Ramos and Carmello Maldonade stepped in.

The three men must have decided enough was enough and they grappled Mr Davis to the floor and helped make sure Deputy Meyer could arrest him.

"I think they're phenomenal. They decided to make a move, risk personal injury to themselves to help a stranger, basically," the policeman told NBC Miami.
