A panto has been put on in Martock to collect cash for Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) Forces Help and the Royal British Legion (RBL).

Martock Players and Pantomime Society staged their own version of Jack and the Beanstalk in order to raise money for the military charities, the Western Gazette reports.

Raffle tickets, collections and refreshment sales from ten performances of the classic show led to the group getting £1,000.

Bernard Ledger of the Martock Players said: "The sum raised was fantastic and I'd like to offer a huge thank you to all who contributed."

Some 900 people turned up over the course of eight days to see the performances, which were directed by Auriol Terrell.

Colonel Graham Longdon of SSAFA Forces Help – which was established over 125 years ago – and Lieutenant Colonel Richard Brooks and Ivan Childs from the RBL turned up to be presented with cheques.
