Fishing is an activity I would imagine takes a lot of skill and dedication.

However, one man from England has shown he has a knack for the sport after landing the biggest ever cod caught in the English Channel at his first attempt.

Chris Proctor wasn't even sure he had landed a fish at first because of the weight of the line, but after a 30-minute struggle he managed to pull it out of the water.

He was delighted with his work, as the cod weighed in at 43lb 9oz.

"I almost didn't go on the trip because I had so much work on but the rest of the guys talked me into it – thank God they did," Mr Proctor stated.

It comfortably beats the previous record of 35 lbs – which has stood since 2000 – and he may now want to think about taking up fishing full-time.
