A woman from Monmouth will run the London Marathon for the third consecutive year to raise money for The Soldiers' Charity.

Emma King – who clocks up 25 miles a week in training – is completing the task in honour of her friend Rifleman Jamie Gunn, who died in combat three years ago, the South Wales Argus reports.

She is hoping to collect some £3,000 by doing the race as she seeks an overall total of £10,000 for the charity, which was set up 66 years ago.

Her employer's Barclays have so far matched 40 per cent of what she has managed to raise.

Ms King stated she felt compelled to do something because "what happened was so sad and I just wanted to give something back".

She is not the only person to be spurred into fundraising after Rifleman Gunn's death, as another friend Christian Williams ran 21 races in 2009-10, with each one representing a year in his life.
