A member of the army is to undertake a 231-mile walk to support military veterans who are homeless and vulnerable, it has emerged.

Sergeant Major Danny Morgan is to walk from his barracks in Catterick, North Yorkshire, to a Territorial Army training centre in Barnet, London, according to the Watford Observer.

He will be raising money for Veterans Aid, having already done charitable work for Cancer Research and the Army Benevolent Fund.

Talking about Veterans Aid, Sergeant Major Morgan told the newspaper: "I first found out about it after reading an article in The Big Issue at Christmas and it made me think how lucky I am to have all my comforts and family around me."

He committed to the walk following a meeting with the charity’s secretary Colonel Geoffrey Cardozo, who told him of the work that Veterans Aid do as they support soldiers in getting back on track.

The charity helps people regardless of how long they were in service for, if they were in the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army, RAF or Merchant Service.
