A new charity has been set up in Burton to help ex-servicemen and women struggling with alcohol and drug problems.

Ian Bradley and Andy Smith – who were both in the army for over 30 years – have set-up Project C along with Michael Dawes, the Burton Mail reports.

All of the former military personnel who are given assistance will be treated at the Burton Addiction Centre – which specialises in the rehabilitation of addictive disorders through the use of various therapies.

Individuals are being encouraged to become friends of the charity, which includes committing to a £15 donation and this will cover them for three years.

Mr Bradley stated: "When you come out of the army you're neither a civvy nor a soldier. We want to give people support from day one to the day they leave the programme."

He added the motto for the organisation is 'Remember your past, surrender your future'.
