Men headed out to see a lady they met on an online dating site for the first time may need to take a different approach in winter than they do in summer.

This is according to Match.com relationship expert Whitney Casey, who told the Chicago Red Eye that one's appearance can be ravaged en route to a hot rendez-vous, while in summer it's unlikely they would show up with even a hair out of place.

The professional advised to have a quick look in the mirror to check in case their noses and eyes have run.

Ms Casey added that great first date winter attire for men includes a sports coat and smart trousers, adding that the flannel shirt and jeans combo can be overdone.
