<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Members of the public will be able to cheer on single soldiers this weekend during a 90-minute ten mile run.<\/p>\n
The event, which will see soldiers taking in four laps of the Humberside town of Goole, has been organised to raise funds for troops fighting in Afghanistan, the Goole Courier reported.<\/p>\n
It is the brainchild of local businessman Steven Pickard, whose two sons, 19-year-old Dean and 21-year-old Darren, are both serving with the Coldstream Guards fighting the Taliban.<\/p>\n
He told the newspaper that "we need to raise as much money as we can".<\/p>\n
"I’d like to thank all the Goole public for the support they have given us, it’s gone very well," he commented.<\/p>\n
"If they can come and support us on Saturday [February 13th] too, the local cadets will be collecting donations throughout the run."<\/p>\n
The run will begin at Goole’s Drill Hall at 10:00 and circuit the town four times before arriving at Westfield Banks sports complex.<\/p>\n
Elsewhere, the Telegraph & Argus reported that a group of Bradford Territorial Army soldiers have agreed to march the city’s 10km run with 20kg weights on their backs next month.<\/p>\n
