{"id":12806,"date":"2022-06-21T18:55:27","date_gmt":"2022-06-21T18:55:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forcespenpals.net\/gb\/?p=12806"},"modified":"2022-06-21T18:55:27","modified_gmt":"2022-06-21T18:55:27","slug":"ben-stiller-meets-his-hero-zelensky-in-ukraine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forcespenpals.net\/gb\/news\/ben-stiller-meets-his-hero-zelensky-in-ukraine\/","title":{"rendered":"Ben Stiller meets his \u2018hero\u2019 Zelensky in Ukraine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"root-block-node\" data-changed=\"false\" data-paragraphid=\"5\">Ben Stiller made a surprise visit to Ukraine recently while he was meeting refugees that had fled the country.&nbsp;The visit was organised by the UNHCR<span class=\"red-underline\" data-startindex=\"147\" data-endindex=\"147\" data-paragraphid=\"5\">,<\/span> and consisted of visits to not just Ukraine but also Poland, where Stiller was able to interact with refugees firsthand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"root-block-node\" data-changed=\"false\" data-paragraphid=\"8\">Speaking about the experience, he told AFP, &ldquo;The stories of the people who experienced the first few days of this war<span class=\"red-underline\" data-startindex=\"116\" data-endindex=\"119\" data-paragraphid=\"8\"> &mdash; <\/span>speaking to them and hearing these really harrowing stories<span class=\"red-underline\" data-startindex=\"179\" data-endindex=\"182\" data-paragraphid=\"8\"> &mdash; <\/span>was very affecting.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p class=\"root-block-node\" data-changed=\"false\" data-paragraphid=\"9\">&ldquo;To see the physical destruction of those neighbourhoods, it&rsquo;s really massive, and it&rsquo;s impossible not to be affected by that,&rdquo; Stiller said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"root-block-node\" data-changed=\"false\" data-paragraphid=\"10\">The visit left a deep impact on the actor, who recalled that a young man he met couldn&rsquo;t understand what was happening<span class=\"red-underline\" data-startindex=\"118\" data-endindex=\"118\" data-paragraphid=\"10\">,<\/span> and that the war felt like &ldquo;something out of a horror film.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p class=\"root-block-node\" data-changed=\"false\" data-paragraphid=\"11\">&ldquo;To see how traumatised he was<span class=\"red-underline\" data-startindex=\"30\" data-endindex=\"33\" data-paragraphid=\"11\"> &mdash; <\/span>he felt his life had been changed forever. It&rsquo;s really tough when you hear a young person say that, and you realise the effects of war are not always <span class=\"red-underline\" data-startindex=\"184\" data-endindex=\"193\" data-paragraphid=\"11\">visible,&rdquo; <\/span>Stiller commented.<\/p>\n<p class=\"root-block-node\" data-changed=\"false\" data-paragraphid=\"12\">The visit also consisted of a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky. &ldquo;You&rsquo;re my hero,&rdquo; he told Zelensky. The feeling is mutual for not just us but plenty of people who have been keeping an eye on the Ukraine war.<\/p>\n<p class=\"root-block-node\" data-changed=\"false\" data-paragraphid=\"13\">&ldquo;What you&rsquo;ve done, the way that you&rsquo;ve rallied the country, the world, it&rsquo;s really inspiring,&rdquo; he told Zelensky.<\/p>\n<p class=\"root-block-node\" data-changed=\"false\" data-paragraphid=\"14\">It was obvious that he had great admiration for the people of Ukraine and how they are continuing to fight back against Russia, an enemy that is enormous in comparison.<\/p>\n<p class=\"root-block-node\" data-changed=\"false\" data-paragraphid=\"15\">&ldquo;Yesterday, I was in a house that was almost fully collapsed with a woman, and we were sitting in her kitchen. And she was giving us strawberries and had this incredible <span class=\"red-underline\" data-startindex=\"170\" data-endindex=\"179\" data-paragraphid=\"15\">resilience<\/span> saying: <span class=\"red-underline\" data-startindex=\"189\" data-endindex=\"189\" data-paragraphid=\"15\">&lsquo;<\/span>We have to figure out how to go forward<span class=\"red-underline\" data-startindex=\"229\" data-endindex=\"230\" data-paragraphid=\"15\">&lsquo;.<\/span> It&rsquo;s hard not to think <span class=\"red-underline\" data-startindex=\"255\" data-endindex=\"259\" data-paragraphid=\"15\">&lsquo;how <\/span>would <span class=\"red-underline\" data-startindex=\"266\" data-endindex=\"267\" data-paragraphid=\"15\">I <\/span>react if my house had half <span class=\"red-underline\" data-startindex=\"295\" data-endindex=\"304\" data-paragraphid=\"15\">collapsed.<\/span>&lsquo;&rdquo; He recalled.<\/p>\n<p class=\"root-block-node\" data-changed=\"false\" data-paragraphid=\"16\">Because of this unnecessary war, around 12 million people have been displaced.
