A glitzy ball held in Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard has raised cash for the Falklands Veterans Foundation (FVF).

Some 150 people turned out for the event, which was held to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the conflict in the Falklands, the Portsmouth News reports.

Over £2,000 was raised for the good cause and Louise Whitmore – who organised the celebration – said it was a "chance for local people to come and dress up and a good opportunity to get with friends and celebrate Christmas".

She added the fact it was held at the Historic Dockyard – the home of the British Navy – went down very well with people.

Juliet Gallop, who was a guest, said she was happy to be doing her bit to increase awareness of the charity.

FVF is the first UK-based third sector group to look after veterans and their families from that conflict and has Simon Weston as its chairman.
