A 13-year-old girl is hoping to release a song to raise funds for an armed forces charity.

Heather Cameron-Hayes has penned the tune Frontline about those military personnel serving throughout the world, Get Hampshire reports.

The teenager is looking to put the record on sale, with all of the proceeds going to Help for Heroes.

Ms Cameron-Hayes noted Phillip Hammond – defence secretary and Conservative MP for Runnymede and Weybridge – has got in contact with her and expressed an interest in using the song.

She is competing in the national Open Mic UK contest and is already in the final of Has Reading Got Talent?

"I am using this competition to raise awareness of my song and the plight of the people from the armed forces," the teenager remarked.

In West Sussex, a 24-hour sponsored silence is taking place today (November 16th) to help collect cash for Help for Heroes.
