Individuals may be increasingly using their mobile phones to go onto the internet and arrange dates.

With the increased prevalence in the use of smartphones, more and more singletons may look to log on wherever they are and try to find love.

According to research by Snap Interactive, the average person looks at 20 or more profiles a day while using their handset.

London, Hong Kong and Melbourne are three of the five most active cities in the world when it comes to this pastime.

The demographic for those trying out online dating on their phone is also younger, with 47 per cent between the ages of 18 and 25.

According to Snap Interactive, there are "increasing opportunities for singles to meet, chat, flirt and possibly fall in love with someone else nearby".

Web users need to bear in mind the importance of having good virus protection software in place too.
