A member of the armed forces is planning to run 382 km to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Captain Samantha Toop is set to travel one km for every serviceman or woman who has died in Afghanistan, the Bournemouth Echo reports.

The 30-year-old is hoping to complete 48 km a day for a week, as she has already done the first 46 km.

If all goes to plan, she will make it back to her home town on Armistice Day, which marks the cessation of hostilities in the Western Front during World War One.

Captain Toop stated: "I have never attempted such a challenge, but I am sure I will finish, knowing the money is going to a worthy cause."

She added while her task will be difficult, it does not compare to the sacrifices made by others.

The planned route will take in Blanford, Salisbury, Tidworth, Andover and Southampton, before returning to Bournemouth.
