The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund (RAFBF) has handed Alabare's Plymouth Home for Veterans a cheque for £10,000.

Martin Henshaw, regional director of Wales and the West of England for the RAFBF – which was established in 1919 – presented the windfall and spent time meeting staff and patients at the facility, the Plymouth Herald reports.

Project manager at the site Dave Millward noted the funding will be used to allow the organisation to offer all of its services to veterans.

"As an ex-service person myself, I understand how difficult it can be making the transition from military to civilian life," he added.

Mr Millward continued by saying that individuals have to adjust to the fact they have lost the camaraderie they are used to.

The centre is currently funded by the Royal British Legion – which also coordinates the Poppy Appeal – and was set up in February 2009.
