Wirral twins Katie and Emily Spencer are running the Liverpool Marathon to raise money for armed forces charity Combat Stress.

The pair are looking to raise at least £1,000 from completing the endurance challenge, which takes place on October 9th, the Wirral Globe reports.

In order to finsih the 26.2-mile race, the 23-year-old girls have been training hard – while Emily has not drank alcohol in a year and Katie has been off it for three months.

Katie stated: "Doing a marathon is something we have always wanted to do and we have been training really hard – although we are both terrified as it gets closer."

Combat Stress is the leading military charity dealing with mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, phobias or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Since 2005 there has been a 72 per cent hike in demand for its services, while over 1,400 new referrals were received in 2010.
