A fundraiser who has already earned some £57,000 for charity is gearing up for a final challenge that will earn money for Help for Heroes and other organisations.

Derek Brown from Rothwell is preparing to walk 705 miles with a 55 lbs rucksack on his back in aid of the bodies he supports, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports.

But 49-year-old Mr Brown is likely to be particularly challenged, as he has curvature of the spine, fused toes and severe arthritis in his feet.

Speaking about the upcoming circular walk from Leeds to Plymouth, he said: "I have a lot of confidence about it and I am really fired up now."

Mr Brown has already overcome some difficult times, as he was born at Plymouth's Military Hospital weighing just 2 lb 1 oz.

The infirmary now incorporates the Derriford Ministry of Defence Hospital Unit, allowing military personnel to work and train alongside their NHS counterparts.
