hikes Snowdon to support soldiers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 91-year-old man has shown his support for soldiers injured on duty by hiking up Mount Snowdon in aid of Help for Heroes.<\/p>\n<p>Allen Birch explains he carries out the feat every two years and he is planning on repeating the mission in 2013, as long as he is well enough, the Kidderminster Shuttle reports.<\/p>\n<p>He completed the task alongside two friends and the trio have already collected &pound;2,000 for the charity, although this is expected to increase to &pound;3,000 when final donations are made.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Birch has been scaling the 3,560 ft mountain in North Wales on a regular basis since he turned 86 and, referring to a repeat performance, the great-grandfather said: &quot;You just never know in life.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>He was well prepared for the task, thanks to an exercise regime involving a four-hour hike every Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The landform is known for its imposing size, although those wishing to take the easy option can get a train to the peak with Snowdon Mountain Railway and enjoy the spectacular views.<\/p>\n<p>Posted by Simon Williams<img decoding=\"async\"
