Single soldiers hoping to enjoy a bit of flirting when using online dating sites could consider including a bit of innuendo.

This is the advice of Peter Spalton, founder of thedatingdoctor.co.uk, who says: "Make messages short and maybe a bit of insinuation or innuendo, but not overtly sexy."

Online chat could also be a good way to enjoy some banter and Mr Spalton advises using short, quick phrases to do so.

Selecting just three or four words that are kept "flirty and light" can be ideal when using this platform, the expert continues.

Descriptions are important when creating a successful profile and the expert suggests paying particular attention to the first 30 words, which he believes to be the most important part.

If this leads to a first date, advice from Laura Bilotta, speaking recently to Canadian publication Metro London, could come in handy, as she suggested keeping things light and going for a coffee or a walk, rather than the traditional evening meal.
