<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The dad of a soldier who died in Afghanistan has launched a campaign for the families of those who have lost loved ones at war to be given the right to compassionate leave from work.<\/p>\n
Bill Stewardson, whose boy died in Basra, was only given one day off from his job with the NHS to attend his funeral before his boss changed his mind and gave him another five.<\/p>\n
His son, kingsman Alex Green, from the 2nd Battalion The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, was shot by a sniper in 2007.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the BBC, Mr Stewardson said it is ridiculous that there’s no right for the families of soldiers to take time off to come to terms with their loss.<\/p>\n
"Why are we having this conversation in 21st century England where you’ve got to go to court, got to go to parliament and put laws in place so that employers, like the NHS, cannot treat people so inhumanely?" he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Sarah Evans, who lost her son in Afghanistan, recently told the Daily Mirror that she’s campaigning for soldiers to be paid more.<\/p>\n
