This was the case for US soldier Richard Allen and his wife Marilyn, who met when they became penpals during World War II, the Jackson Citizen Patriot reports.<\/p>\n
At the age of 86, Mr Allen passed away in 2010, but his spouse explains he remained committed to the armed forces for many years after his service.<\/p>\n
The duo were introduced as penpals when Mrs Allen's brother was serving alongside her future husband in the second world war and sought out a correspondent.<\/p>\n
They wrote to each other throughout the conflict and shared experiences before getting married when the soldier was discharged.<\/p>\n
"It was a great love story," Mrs Allen says, adding: "He was such a great man."<\/p>\n
Another way to meet people could be to sample online dating, as a recent piece in the Irish Examiner suggested the platform can be a great way to find Mr or Mrs Right.<\/p>\n
