A Help for Heroes-funded recovery centre in Tidworth is readying itself for its first visitors.

The £17 million facility at Tedworth House – which aims to look after those injured while serving their country – is opening up, with 29 people initially moving in.

These will be joined by more individuals at later dates, with resident numbers expected to reach 50 by spring next year.

Aims of the centre include the intellectual and social recovery of personnel who have progressed from their initial rehabilitation stages at Headley Court.

Major Peter Smith is running the complex and told the BBC that many of the soldiers are worried about what they are unable to achieve going forward.

He stated: "What we'd like them to focus on is what they can do."

The news comes shortly after people across the UK showed their support to the nation's military by joining in events set up to mark Armed Forces Day on June 25th.
