Branch: All.

Definition: A chin strap is literally a strap that helps a person’s headgear or helmet stay in place, leveraged against a person’s chin. Soldiers use it to refer to feeling tired or that they haven’t had much sleep, given that they’ve been in their gear for too long. In the context of a relationship, this can refer to someone feeling sick of the person that they are with. Romantic redundancy, so to speak.

Example: The honeymoon phase is over and I’m feeling chin-strapped with each passing day. I really thought we were meant for each other but every single thing that’s been happening has been making me feel like my life was better off when I was single. I don’t think I’m cut out for monogamy.
